    Hi Nick, all

I’m really looking forward to attending the November course and meeting you all. You’ve asked for a bit of background information:
I’m 48 years young and will retire from the Royal Navy in 2017 after 30+ years Service as a Hydrographic Surveyor.
I joined the Survey trade in 1984 when we were still hand writing titles on Ozatex sheets with Rotring and line pens. I was in my element; sadly the art has since disappeared with the advent of computer printed graphics and digital multi-beam bathymetry. Happily, the passion of creating the written form with my own bare hands has never left me; I’m just not that good (yet).
I’ve chalked the odd pub sign for a Wetherspoons pub nearby and created boards and signage for a friend who owned a tanning and beauty salon…..they seemed happy with my work.
I enjoy re-upholstery, recycling and distressing pieces of furniture to sell on and would love to include sign writing within this as I will have more time on my hands. I’ve recently bought three chisel brushes, dipped them into paint and realised that I need to know how to use these things properly, hence…………..!

    Kind regards
    Darren.
